Provision of cathode active materials for New Energy battery manufacturing

High-performance cathode active materials for lithium batteries

Active cathode materials play a vital role in improving the energy density, life and safety of lithium batteries. Their performance ultimately determines the quality and production cost of lithium batteries. Lithium-ion battery cathode materials are divided into four major categories:

  1. Lithium Cobalt Oxide (LCO)
  2. Lithium Nickel Cobalt Manganese Oxide (NMC 811, NMC 622, NMC 532, NMC 111 etc.)
  3. Lithium Manganate (LiMnO)
  4. Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP)
  5. Other.

Each material has its own advantages in energy density, safety, service life, charging time, high and low temperature performance, etc. Different materials are selected according to the application field.

As a top supplier of cathode active materials, we are at the forefront of the new energy revolution. F.A.Q.

During the charge and discharge process of lithium-ion batteries, the positive electrode material undergoes electrochemical oxidation/reduction reactions, and lithium ions are repeatedly embedded in and removed from the material. Typical positive electrode materials include lithium cobalt oxide, lithium manganese oxide, lithium iron phosphate, etc.

Transition metals such as nickel, cobalt and manganese are often indispensable in the positive electrode components of lithium batteries. The positive electrode is generally a transition metal oxide or polyanion compound containing lithium, and Co, Ni, Mn and other transition metals are more suitable.

The types of materials coated on the positive electrode of the battery include metal oxides, phosphates, solid electrolytes and conductive polymers, etc., depending on which positive electrode material of the lithium battery you need.

In the preparation of positive electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries, the most commonly used method is high-temperature solid-phase reaction, which uses chemical reaction precipitation method to prepare high-purity, high-crystallinity, single-particle-size powders from different metals such as nickel, cobalt, manganese and lithium.

Among the constituent materials of lithium-ion batteries, the positive electrode material, as the “donor” of lithium ions, directly determines the key performance of lithium-ion batteries such as energy density and safety, and its cost accounts for 30% to 40% of the entire battery cell.
